While going to Sabarimala, the place where tourists halt is called Pamba. The hill shrine is caressed by the frolicking river Pamba amidst dense and luxuriant foliage. There is a trekking route also which is availed by trekkers. There is a canal en route to Sabarimala called Perur Thodu, where according to folklores; Lord Ayyappan took rest while fighting a duel with the demon Mahishi. Lord Ayyappan’s garden is called Poongavanam which is also a delight for the tourists to see. Another important point in the trekking route is Kalaketti.  Trekkers before embarking on their journey break coconut and burn camphor to offer to the god. Traditional tourists particularly those with a spiritual inclination take a holy dip in the river Pamba, after which they start for the sanctum of the divine figure.
