A City Of History, Culture And Heritage: Burhanpur, A Must Visit

So many races and so many places in juxtaposition bring out a rich and enhanced cultural heritage. This city indeed adds more to it! Geographically Burhanpur is the mid size city in Madhya Pradesh. The name of the city was first found in the history of Rashtrakuta dynasty at around 753-982. Later it has been renamed after a demotic Sufi saint Burhan-ud-Din. A trip to Madhya Pradesh will not be considered until and unless one made a trip to Burhanpur.
Burhanpur is enriched with historical importance as well as it is touched with modern technologies and stands as a compilation of ancient heritage and modern development. How to reach Burhanpur in order to enjoy all the Burhanpur Tourist attractions is not a question at all. Burhanpur is situated on the north bank of the river Tapti, located at 340 Km southwest of Bhopal and 540 Km northeast of Mumbai. One can reach the city by train, bus and cab.
Burhanpur Tourism speaks for its expanded historical monuments. Those monuments belonging to the time of Mughal Empire are a genuine example of rich architectural heritage. Besides, there are plenty other places which are enlisted as Burhanpur Tourist attractions. The Shahi Quila stands first among them. Shahi Quila is a majestic place in Burhanpur and was built at the time of Shah Jahan. Rumours are there that Shah Jahan spent some of his considerable important time of his life here, at Burhanpur and the main attraction of the Quila the ‘hamam’ was built under his order, for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.
In the repertory of Indian architecture, this city is indeed treated as a jewel. Burhanpur Tourism reveals some other places of interest like ‘Raja ki Chhatri’ which is situated on the bank of river Tapti. This ‘ Chhatri’ was built by the instruction of Mughal emperor Auranzeb, in respect of the memory Raja Jai Sing.  Next is  ‘Iccha Devi Temple’ situated at Ichchhapur, dedicated to worship Devi Ichchha. ‘Hill fort’ is located on Burhanpur tehsil and it is referred to as the ‘Gateway to Southern India’ apart from these, mention should be made of Biwi ki Masjid, Jami Masjid, Tomb of Nasir Khan and so on. People must visit these places for their own sake, to enrich them with the flavour of these landmarks and feel their importance.
Apart from these historical places of interest, one must have a look at Burhanpur handloom industry,  which still remains at the state of developing but indeed contributing enough to  the development of the state. As it is becoming one of the important and tourist attraction in Madhya Pradesh, the government and Madhya Pradesh Tourism Authority has become more conscious to its development and maintenance. So, indeed, people must for one time, visit the city, to enjoy the aesthetics, the culture, sentiment and heritage of Burhanpur.
