Paonta Sahib Gurudwara is dedicated to the 10th
guru of Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh. It is located in the city of the Paonta Sahib
City in Himachal Pradesh and is considered as an energetic township that is
comprised of a number of industries. The name of the city was derived from the
Sanskrit word ‘paon’, which means foot. It is said that Guru Gobind Singh lost
his foot ornament at this place, while bathing in the river Yamuna. An
alternative story is that the Guru placed his foot for the first time, which
gave religious significance to this place.

Most of the tourists are not aware of how to reach
Paonta. The city is well connected by road, rail and airways; it is
situated at a distance of 81 km from Nahan and 60 km from Rajban. Tourists can
also reach from Dehradun, which is around 44 km. The closest places to Paonta
Sahib are Dehradun and Ambala. The nearest airports are at Dehradun and
Chandigarh. It is nearly 48 km from Yamuna Nagar, which is considered as a well
grown industrial in Haryana.

Paonta is connected through National Highway 72 to the
cities of Dehradun and Chandigarh. Tourists can reach these places through
different modes, from where they can pick taxis and public transport buses.
Public and private buses start early in the morning and are available
throughout the day till night. Apart from this, Himachal Road Transport
Corporation runs a number of buses that connect different places of the state
with Paonta Sahib.

Dehradun and Yamuna Nagar. Tourists can catch trains to Dehradun from various

Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport
that is located nearly 70 km from Paonta Sahib.
Jubbarhatti Airport in Shimla, which is 145 km from Paonta Sahib, is
another option. It is well connected with flights to all major cities like –
Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, etc. After reaching Jubbarhatti Airport in Shimla,
tourists can pick taxis and buses directly to Paonta Sahib.
