A trip to Rajasthan will not be complete if you have not seen Bhilwara – The City of Calmness, Culture and Cloth.

Bhilwara is located in the Mewar region of Rajasthan and is around 260 kms from Jaipur. It is said that this beautiful place was named after the “Bhils” who are supposed to have inhabited the place in the ancient times. It has now become and industrial town and is known as the Textile City of Rajasthan. It is also at times called the Zoo of minerals as it has several rich deposits of various kinds on minerals. Bhilwara is a major tourist attraction in Rajasthan, and any trip to Rajasthan would be incomplete without a visit to Bhilwara.
For those people wondering how to reach Bhilwara, it is located along one of the National Highways and can be reached by trains, busses or taxis. It is 150 kms from Udaipur which has the closest airport from Bhilwara. There are five different trains that run and reaching Bhilwara is not a problem at all. The fort of Badnor which is located on Bhilwara – Asind road is a beautiful example of the medieval military architecture of India. It is a gigantic seven storied fort which towers over a small hill and was used primarily for defense purposes. The Harni Mahadev temple is another very important Bhilwara tourist attraction. Beside the beautiful waterfalls about 6 kms from Bhilwara is a Shivling under a stone. This is a major pilgrimage spot for devotees and on the occasion of Shiv Ratri every year a three day fair is held at this place. The hill atop also has a famed Chamunda Mata Temple.
Around 40 kms from Bhilwara is Gangapur, it is a Rajasthani village where there is a cattle fair. This fair involves a number of domestic animals which are traded. It is a colourful affair and a cattle fair is a bit of Rajasthan that everyone must experience. Another Bhilwara tourist attraction is Bijolia which has the Undeshwar Temple, the Mandakini Kund, the Jain temples and the Hajaresvara Mahadeva temple. These were built mainly by the Chauhans who were worshippers of Shiva and Kali and built ornate and magnificent temples.
Now that you know how to reach Bhilwara, a trip to this city while visiting Rajasthan is a must. Sahapura which is located almost 55 kms from Bhilwara has a famous 700 year old Pabuji ki Phad. Phad painting is done on a long sheet of cloth on which tales are depicted through paintings. The Bhilwara tavel guide says that the one in Sahapura is one of the oldest Phad paintings. The Sawaibhoj mandir and Mandalgarh Fort are also beautiful relics of Indian history. Of the many temples that Bhilwara boasts of the Yakshini Mata temple is one where you can experience ancient splendor even in the ruins.
