How To Reach Kottayam Of Kottayam Tourism – A Place Known For Its Meadows And Virgin Hill Station With Green Trees


Cheap Air TicketsKottayam is one of the largest towns in Kerala known for its labyrinthine backwaters, lush paddy fields, and picturesque landscape and rubber plantations.  A beautiful place hemmed in by the rugged Western Ghats on one side and the palm-fringed Vembanad Lake on the other side.  Known for its archaeological pilgrimage places, Kottayam is well-connected to all major cities and a major railway station in the town itself.  The nearest airport for Kottayam is the Cochin which is 76 km away.
Ancient Shiva Temple of Ettumanoot is 15 km from Kottayam is famous for its seven and a half golden elephant statue.  One can enjoy the cruise on house boats and traditional cargo boats in the Vembanad Lake.  A beautiful hill top destination is the Vennimala, 15 km from Kottayam.  The major attraction here is the Lekshmana and Sreerama Temple.  The place is covered with rubber plantation and lush green vegetation with numerous small and big fresh water ponds.  Another attraction here is the cave which has been now closed by fallen rocks.  A hill top that offer stunning view of the surroundings is the Matrumala, 8 km from Vennimala.  Lush green paddy fields crisscrossed with numerous canals can be found in the quaint little village of Kallara.
A sleepy little village on the Vembanad Lake is Kumarakom, 13 Kms away from Kottayam.  Safe home for many migratory birds is the bird sanctuary that spread across 14 acres in Kumarakom.  Emerald green paddy fields, coconut trees comprising with canals and water ways adorned with white lilies and the mangrove forests leaves some beautiful memories about this place.  A hill station that witnesses both the sun rise and sunset is elaveezhapoonchira as the name means the leaves don’t fall.  A place of picturesque charm, Poonchira is locked between three beautiful hillocks Kudayathoormala, Thonippara and Mankunnu.  Verdant landscape punctuated by the gigantic hills, this beautiful valley is spread across thousands of acres.  During monsoon, water collects in an area which reflects the majestic mountains and the rain clouds.

Historical importance because of the Vaikom Satyagraham made Vaikom a well-known place.  This place is towards the west of Kottayam.  A glorious testimony to the regal opulence of a bygone era can be experienced if you plan a visit to Poonjar Palace.  Showcased in this palace is the royal collection of exquisite furniture and antiques.  Furniture that is used for Ayurvedic massages can be seen in this palace is believed to be carved out of single piece of wood.

Trekkers paradise surrounded by velvet lawns, Hills beautifully covered with green grasses and surrounded by the greenery of tea gardens make Wagamon a perfect holiday retreat which is 64 Km away from Kottayam.  A scenic spot for the tourists, the place comprises of waterfalls and green slopes, valleys and a stunningly beautiful series of gentle hills.  A place worth visiting to see the chain of three hills Kurisumala, Thangal Hill and Murugan Hill.
