Ahmadabad is not the capital of Gujarat. But this city is one of the most attractive
tourist spots in the state. This is such a place where tourists get to
experience some adventurous moments, as well as visit gorgeous lakes, nice
amusement parks and wonderful
museums. The city served as an important base during the Indian freedom
movement, and hasn’t lost its importance till date.
Ahmadabad is the ’textile city of India’. That is
the reason why it is also known as the ‘Manchester
of the East’. Many buildings of the city showcase Indo-Saracenic architecture -
the combination of Hindu and Islamic style. Rani Rupmati's Mosque, Jama Masjid
and Rani Sipri's Mosque are some examples of this.
Places to visit in Ahmadabad:
Sabarmati ashram: This ashram is the root of the Indian freedom movement as Gandhiji
started his “satyagraha” movement here. In 1930, Sabarmati ashram served as the
inception point for the famous Dandi March. Today, this ashram is known as the
Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya and serves as the museum of Mahatma Gandhi.
Vaishnodevi Mandir: It is a replica of the original Vaishnodevi
Mandir which is in Jammu and Kashmir.
It is situated on the Ahmadabad-Gandhinagar road.
Manek Chowk: Manek Chowk is the busiest area in the city. It is famous for its
gold-trading market. It is located beside the Jama Masjid.
City museum: This museum showcases the most important achievements and aspects of Ahmadabad. In local
language this is known as Atit Ki Jhanki.
Modhera Sun Temple:
This temple is a must-see place. Modhera
Sun Temple
is famous for its structural design and contains three prime chambers - Surya
Kund, Sabha Mandap and Guda Mandap.
